In Memoriam: Dr. Abraham H. Savitzky

Abraham Savitzky was Steve's father; he passed away on Friday, February 5th at about 2:00pm after losing a year-long battle against pancreatic cancer and congestive heart failure. He was 79 years old.

Dr. Savitzky was a chemist, specializing most recently in the digital processing of infrared spectra. His many publications include seven patents and the most-frequently-cited article in the field of chemistry (describing the Savitzky-Golay algorithm for what is now called digital filtering).

He is survived by his wife Evelyn, sons Stephen <steve@theStarport.org> and Alan, and four grandchildren.

We are (OK, I am) soliciting contributions to this memorial web site. It is possible to e-mail attachments (in non-proprietary formats) to me, but it's faster and more reliable to send them by ftp and just e-mail me a description. Instructions can be found one level up in this file.
